A split phase load bank is a device that can simulate different electrical loads for testing purposes. It can be used to test inverters, generators, transformers and other power sources. A split phase load bank has two output terminals that are out of phase by 180 degrees with each other, and a common neutral terminal. This allows it to create both single-phase and three-phase loads by connecting different combinations of the terminals. For example, a single-phase load can be created by connecting one of the output terminals and the neutral terminal, while a three-phase load can be created by connecting all three terminals. A split phase load bank can also have different types of loads, such as resistive, inductive or capacitive, to simulate different power factors and harmonics.

A split phase load bank works by using a transformer with a center-tapped secondary winding to create two output voltages that are 180 degrees out of phase with each other. The center tap is connected to a neutral terminal, and the two ends of the winding are connected to two output terminals. The load bank can also have different types of resistors, inductors or capacitors to create different types of loads. By connecting different combinations of the output terminals and the neutral terminal, the load bank can simulate single-phase or three-phase loads with different voltages, currents, power factors and harmonics. The load bank can also have instruments for measuring and controlling the load, and a cooling system for dissipating the heat generated by the load.
